About the role
Caron Custom Homes is a family-owned custom home builder specializing in high-end lakeshore builds in southwest Michigan. We are looking for an experienced Full Charge Bookkeeper to manage the complete bookkeeping cycle for our company.
This is a solo role — you will be the primary financial operations person in the building. You won't have a team beneath you or a Controller above you directing your daily work. You need to be someone who can walk into a small business, take full ownership of the books, and keep everything accurate and on time without being managed. Construction industry experience is a significant advantage and will be reflected in compensation.
What you'll own
- Full accounts payable and accounts receivable cycle
- Payroll processing — accurate and on time, every cycle
- Bank account reconciliation and deposits
- Job cost reporting by project
- Sworn statements and lien waiver preparation and tracking
- Subcontractor insurance certificate tracking and compliance
- Annual insurance audit documentation and support
- Proposal review for financial accuracy
- Entered bill reports and financial recordkeeping
- Documenting all processes step-by-step as you build or refine them
What we're looking for
- 4+ years of full charge bookkeeping experience — required
- Demonstrated ability to manage the complete bookkeeping cycle independently
- QuickBooks proficiency — required
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
- Construction industry bookkeeping experience strongly preferred — job costing, lien waivers, and sworn statements are core to this role
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously
- Self-directed and accountable — this role requires someone who owns their work without being micromanaged
- Ability to commute to Decatur, MI — fully in-person position
