Job Role: The Quality Inspector – Welding is responsible for inspecting welded components and assemblies to ensure they meet defined standards and requirements. This role involves working closely with welders, engineers, and production staff to identify defects, perform inspections, and support continuous improvement initiatives within the welding department.
Key Duties:
- Inspect welded components and assemblies for compliance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and company quality standards.
- Conduct dimensional checks, visual inspections, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods where applicable.
- Identify weld defects including cracks, porosity, undercutting, and incomplete fusion.
- Utilize measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and weld gauges to validate tolerances.
- Document inspection findings, deviations, and corrective actions accurately and clearly.
- Collaborate with welders and production teams to communicate issues and ensure timely corrections.
- Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and support process improvements to eliminate recurring issues.
- Maintain complete and traceable quality records according to internal policies and industry standards.
- Monitor adherence to welding procedures, including material usage, techniques, and machine settings.
- Perform in-process inspections during manufacturing to identify and correct issues early.
- Enforce and follow safety protocols throughout the manufacturing environment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in welding or quality control preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in quality inspection or welding in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of welding symbols and standards (ANSI, AWS, ISO).
- Familiarity with welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and SMAW.
- Proficient in using measurement and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective documentation and communication skills.
- Basic computer literacy for reporting and data entry.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise).
- Must have the physical stamina to perform repetitive motions and remain on feet for most of the shift.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate tools accurately and safely.
Preferences:
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management systems.
- Prior experience as a welder, especially in pipe welding.
