Job Summary
Consolidated Packaging Group is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Industrial Maintenance Engineer to support the reliability and performance of our manufacturing equipment and facility systems. This position will perform equipment repairs and preventive maintenance while coordinating daily maintenance activities and assigning work orders among maintenance personnel.
The ideal candidate will be fully competent in industrial electrical, mechanical, HVAC, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. This individual must be able to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and control diagrams to troubleshoot equipment failures—including HMI and PLC-related alarms—to their true root cause.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Review, prioritize, assign, and follow up on maintenance work orders.
- Coordinate daily assignments among maintenance personnel based on production priorities, safety, and urgency.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems.
- Use HMI alarms, PLC inputs and outputs, electrical schematics, and machine drawings to trace failures to their root cause.
- Diagnose issues involving motors, drives, sensors, relays, contactors, safety circuits, control panels, and industrial power systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, hydraulic diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Support emergency breakdown repairs and restore equipment safely and efficiently.
- Identify recurring failures and implement permanent corrective actions rather than temporary repairs.
- Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance activities around the production schedule.
- Verify completed work orders for quality, accuracy, and proper documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, failure causes, and corrective actions.
- Identify critical spare-parts needs and assist with inventory control.
- Coordinate with production, quality, engineering, and outside contractors when necessary.
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA requirements, Consolidated Packaging Group safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical safety standards.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to maintenance personnel.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, modifications, and commissioning.
- Promote a clean, organized, safe, and accountable maintenance environment.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced troubleshooting ability across electrical and mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated competency with HVAC, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment using HMI alarms, input/output status, schematics, and machine conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, ladder logic, and control diagrams.
- Experience troubleshooting motors, variable-frequency drives, servos, sensors, safety devices, and industrial control systems.
- Experience managing, prioritizing, or assigning maintenance work orders.
- Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during equipment breakdowns.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Thorough understanding of lockout/tagout and industrial safety procedures.
- Ability to use standard diagnostic equipment, including multimeters and other electrical and mechanical testing tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in industrial maintenance, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- Five or more years of industrial maintenance experience.
- Previous maintenance leadership, planning, or work-order coordination experience.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience in flexible packaging, printing, converting, plastics, or a similar continuous manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with PLC programming and diagnostic software.
- Experience supporting capital projects and new equipment installations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work around manufacturing equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, moving equipment, and elevated work areas.
What We Are Looking For
Consolidated Packaging Group is looking for a dependable and technically strong maintenance professional who takes ownership of equipment reliability. The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly on equipment, coordinating maintenance priorities, supporting maintenance personnel, and following problems through until the actual root cause has been identified and permanently corrected.
