The City of Washington Public Works is looking for a dependable, hardworking Laborer to join our Street Department. You'll operate a variety of equipment, help keep our roads and rights-of-way safe, and play a real role in the day-to-day life of our community all year long – from spring mowing and property maintenance to summer roadway repairs to winter snow removal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely operate a wide range of equipment – jackhammer, chain saw, backhoe, street sweeper, tractor with bush hog, and more.

Keep City properties looking great: mowing, brush and limb removal, and alley and right-of-way cleanup.

Repair sidewalks and roadways, and maintain curbs, crosswalks, and stop bars.

Clean and repair drainage structures and keep our infrastructure running smoothly.

Direct traffic safely around roadway construction or repair sites.

Team up with the City Mechanic on vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Jump in during storm response, cleanup efforts, and the City's snow removal operations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Enjoyment of outdoor work in all kinds of weather

High school diploma or GED.

Valid Illinois driver's license.

Valid CDL, or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Live within or near Washington, IL, close enough to report within 15–30 minutes for emergencies or snow removal.

Willingness to work occasional unscheduled overtime, including weekends and holidays.
