Field Diesel Mechanic — 2 Years Experience
Summary Reliable field diesel mechanic with two years of hands‑on experience performing on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines and related systems for trucks, generators, and heavy equipment. Focused on minimizing downtime, ensuring safety, and delivering clear customer communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections: oil/filter changes, coolant service, fuel filter replacement, belts, and hoses.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engine problems: turbochargers, fuel injection systems (injectors, pumps, common-rail components), valve adjustments, and compression issues.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel-related systems: cooling, intake/exhaust, turbo, transmission interfaces, brakes, and driveline components.
- Work with emissions and aftertreatment systems: DPF cleaning/diagnosis, DEF system checks, and basic ECM fault code interpretation.
- Use diagnostic tools and test equipment: multimeter, fuel pressure gauges, compression testers, OBD/diagnostic scanners, and handheld code readers.
- Perform roadside and on-site repairs: parts replacement, hose/fitting repair, basic welding, and emergency breakdown recovery.
- Complete service reports, parts usage logs, and communicate repair status, cost/time estimates, and safety concerns to dispatch and customers.
- Follow safety protocols (PPE, lockout/tagout) and proper handling/disposal of diesel fuel, oils, and hazardous materials.
Technical Skills & Tools
- Diesel engine repair (light to medium/heavy duty)
- Fuel injection systems (mechanical and electronic/common rail)
- Turbocharger maintenance and diagnosis
- Basic emissions aftertreatment knowledge (DPF, DEF)
- Electrical troubleshooting (12V–24V), sensor and starter/alternator service
- Use of diagnostic scanners, multimeter, compression tester, fuel pressure gauge, hand and power tools
- Basic welding and fabrication, hose/fitting replacement
Qualifications & Traits
- 2 years field diesel mechanic or diesel technician experience
- Valid driver’s license; comfortable driving service trucks/vans; clean driving record preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, time management, and customer-service skills
- Physically able to lift, work in varied weather, and perform hands‑on repairs
- Willingness to obtain industry certifications (ASE, manufacturer training) and learn new diagnostic tools
Pay: $26.00 - $40.00 per hour
