Responsibilities
- Safely operate various types of vehicles including school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles to transport passengers to and from designated locations
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, boarding, and disembarking to ensure comfort and safety
- Follow traffic laws, transportation safety regulations, and school or company policies during all driving activities
- Respond quickly and appropriately to traffic changes, emergencies, or unexpected situations using emergency response procedures for transportation
- Conduct vehicle inspections before and after trips, including checking vehicle codes, safety equipment, and ensuring heavy lifting is performed safely when needed
- Communicate effectively with passengers using clear English language skills; manage passenger behavior and enforce discipline policies when necessary
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports while documenting any safety concerns or behavioral issues
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience working with children or seniors is highly preferred
- Strong understanding of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physical tasks associated with wheelchair assistance and passenger support
- Excellent communication skills in English; ability to handle behavior management effectively in diverse settings
- Demonstrated quick response skills during traffic changes or emergencies; ability to follow emergency response procedures confidently
