JOB Under general supervision, the
General Maintenance Worker 2nd Class performs repair and maintenance work requiring an intermediate degree of skill. Work involves inspection, repair, maintenance, and installation of all types of water plant equipment and machinery. Because the Authority has a responsibility to serve the public 24 hours per day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand, and may be required to accept overtime on short notice during emergency or unusual conditions and to perform essential work as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Maintains and repairs water distribution system.
- Inspects water mains, meters and valves to detect leaks.
- Bolts leak proof collars to water mains to stop leaks.
- Installs packing material in valves to make them watertight and replaces defective water meters, using plumber's hand tools.
- Drills and threads holes in water mains for service connections, using hand powered tapping tool.
- Replaces damaged pipe sections and seal joints; repairs and maintains pumps.
- Operates compactor, jumping jack and/or elephant foot to perform compaction of back fill material for pipelines and road repairs.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION High School diploma, or equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in the mechanical, metal, plumbing or electrical trades, and two (2) years of experience in water plant maintenance work.
