Middle School Religion and Social Studies Teacher

Reporting to the Middle School Director, the Middle School Religion and Social Studies Teacher is a Middle School faculty member who works in both the religion and social studies departments in grades 5-8. This teacher provides a meaningful Catholic-based religion curriculum and helps students learn and apply concepts of faith. This teacher also has the content knowledge and pedagogical skill to engage students in project-based learning experiences in social studies classes.
Responsibilities:
- Teach grade 6 religion and social studies.
- Serve as an advisor for a group of grade 6 students and as an active member of the grade 6 team.
- Participate as an active member of the religion and social studies departments.
- Attend faculty and administrative meetings as needed.
- Assist with middle school duties as needed.
- Support the philosophy, policies and goals of the school and adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the parent/student handbook and employee handbook.
- Act as a role model of professionalism in a Catholic environment.
- Plan, implement, and supervise the religious education program in accordance with the goals, policies, procedures, philosophy, and curriculum of the school.
- Work with the other religion teachers and the Religious Education Coordinator to develop and implement the school campus ministry program.
- Deliver a social studies curriculum with collaborative and project-based experiences that foster students’ critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and maintain appropriate student records.
- Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in middle school education specific to teaching religion and social studies, classroom management and social-emotional learning.
- Adapt the classroom program and provide necessary accommodations to meet the needs of individual students.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity within the classroom and advisement.
- Provide necessary and effective parent communication, including parent/student conferences and back-to-school night.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Practicing Catholic with current Basic Catechetical Certification is required.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in theology, ministry, history, education, or related field is required.
- A minimum of two years of middle school teaching experience is preferable.
- Current Ohio teaching certification/license preferred.
- Possesses a comprehensive understanding of best practices for middle child education.
- Demonstrate a passion for driving student learning and success.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Proficient in Google Workspace for Education.
