Job description:
Embassy Suites by Hilton Glendale is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, building systems, and equipment to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for our guests and Team Members.
The Maintenance Engineer performs preventive and corrective maintenance, responds promptly to maintenance requests, identifies and resolves equipment and facility issues, and supports the overall operation of the hotel in accordance with Hilton standards and established safety procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides exceptional service to guests and Team Members by responding promptly and professionally to maintenance requests and concerns.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance and corrective repairs throughout the hotel to maintain the property in optimal operating condition.
- Responds promptly to reports of non-functioning equipment, facility issues, guest room deficiencies, and other maintenance concerns.
- Inspects guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and hotel facilities to identify maintenance needs and potential safety hazards.
- Performs repairs and maintenance in guest rooms, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, fixtures, doors, windows, bathroom equipment, furniture, and other room components.
- Maintains and services hotel HVAC systems and assists with troubleshooting heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning issues.
- Performs general plumbing repairs, including faucets, toilets, drains, pipes, valves, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Performs basic electrical repairs and troubleshooting in accordance with applicable safety requirements and property procedures.
- Repairs and maintains hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, housekeeping, and other operational equipment.
- Performs painting, drywall repair, tile, flooring, carpet, marble, fixture, mirror, and other general building repairs as needed.
- Maintains the appearance and functionality of guest rooms, corridors, public areas, meeting spaces, restaurants, and back-of-house areas.
- Conducts regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify potential equipment failures and address issues before they impact guests or hotel operations.
- Maintains accurate records of completed maintenance work, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities as required.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and other maintenance equipment safely and properly.
- Maintains tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Supports the maintenance and operation of hotel life-safety systems and promptly reports or addresses conditions that may affect guest or Team Member safety.
- Follows hotel procedures related to fire and life safety, emergency response, security, key control, and access to guest rooms and restricted areas.
- Identifies and reports safety hazards, unsafe conditions, property damage, equipment deficiencies, and other concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Takes immediate corrective action when appropriate to minimize safety risks or prevent additional property damage.
- Assists with maintaining the exterior of the property, including building structures, grounds, lighting, and other exterior facilities as assigned.
- Works collaboratively with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and other hotel departments to resolve maintenance concerns and minimize disruption to guests.
- Responds to guest concerns in a courteous and professional manner and escalates issues when additional assistance is required.
- Prioritizes work based on guest impact, safety, operational needs, and direction from Engineering leadership.
- Maintains awareness of the condition and operation of hotel mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems.
- Supports energy conservation and efficient operation of hotel equipment and building systems.
- Maintains compliance with Hilton standards, hotel policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Keeps the Engineering leadership team informed of significant maintenance issues, recurring problems, equipment failures, safety concerns, and other matters requiring attention.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by Engineering leadership or hotel management.
Guest Service & Teamwork
- Creates a positive experience for guests by maintaining hotel facilities and responding to maintenance needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicates effectively with guests, Team Members, supervisors, vendors, and contractors.
- Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, teamwork, and a commitment to Hilton’s service standards.
- Protects guest privacy and maintains appropriate discretion when working in occupied guest rooms or guest-accessible areas.
- Represents Embassy Suites by Hilton and Hilton in a professional manner at all times.
Safety & Compliance
- Follows all established safety rules, procedures, and OSHA requirements applicable to the position.
- Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and follows safe work practices when performing maintenance and repairs.
- Reports workplace injuries, hazards, unsafe conditions, and property damage promptly.
- Maintains proper control and use of tools, equipment, keys, and other hotel resources.
- Follows all applicable hotel, Hilton, fire/life-safety, security, and emergency procedures.
Overall Responsibility
The Maintenance Engineer plays an important role in ensuring that the hotel operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. Through preventive maintenance, timely repairs, attention to detail, and exceptional service, the Maintenance Engineer helps ensure that guests and Team Members experience a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained hotel environment.
This position is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely, efficient, safe, and professional manner in accordance with Hotels standards, hotel policies, and established procedures.
