Job description
The Art Instructor is responsible for developing and teaching engaging drawing and illustration curriculum while adapting instruction to meet a wide range of abilities and learning styles. The instructor will encourage artistic growth, support artists in achieving their individual goals, and collaborate with fellow instructors to create an engaging studio experience.
This position combines fine arts instruction with classroom supervision, documentation, health and safety responsibilities, and community engagement.
Essential Responsibilities
Art Instruction
- Develop and facilitate engaging weekly drawing and illustration lessons.
- Teach drawing fundamentals including line, shape, proportion, perspective, value, composition, anatomy, and observational drawing.
- Instruct artists in a variety of drawing styles and mediums including realism, portraiture, comics, manga/anime, character design, colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, and ink.
- Scaffold instruction to accommodate artists with varying skill levels while maintaining meaningful learning opportunities for all.
- Encourage artists to develop their own creative voice and artistic style.
- Adapt lessons based on artist interests, abilities, and person-centered goals.
- Prepare materials and maintain a clean, organized, and inspiring studio environment.
Artist Support & Supervision
- Provide supervision and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the program day.
- Promote independence, self-advocacy, and positive social interactions.
- Maintain the health, safety, dignity, and rights of all artists.
- Assist artists with transitions, community outings, exhibitions, and studio activities.
- Follow all emergency procedures and organizational policies.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete attendance, daily case notes, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with instructors, supervisors, families, Regional Center staff, and other professionals as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with instructors.
- Assist with community events, and special projects.
- Support the overall mission and growth of Impact Arts Studio.
Preferred
- Experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of Regional Center regulations and Title 17/22.
- CPR/First Aid certification
Requirements:
- Two (2) year of experience in a human services delivery system working with individuals with autism and/or developmentally delayed
- Three (3) years of experience in teaching art to individuals.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
