A leading "East of Columbus, GA" area manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Process Control & Automation Engineering Manager to lead automation, control systems, and process optimization initiatives within a large-scale industrial manufacturing environment.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing a team of automation engineers, technical specialists, and external resources while driving reliability, operational excellence, process stability, and long-term digital transformation strategies.
The successful candidate will partner closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and capital project teams to modernize automation infrastructure, improve manufacturing performance, and support critical business objectives.
This is an onsite leadership position.
This is ideally a fit for a HANDS-ON manager, who can lead from the front, with Hands on Process Controls Engineering experience and abilities, but with the MANAGEMENT experience and skill-set/ability to support both the company's automation strategy, process control improvements, and capital projects across multiple production facilities, but also to lead the team, 'coach up' those that need it, mentor all on the staff, when/as needed and to both PUSH the team to do their best, and hold everyone accountable, and recognize the teams WINS, Near misses, and everything in between
This role will also ideally serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for Emerson DeltaV systems, with responsibility for implementing, optimizing, and supporting DCS platforms that drive safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
Candidates with recent, hands-on DeltaV configuration and implementation experience are highly desired. Additional consideration will be given to individuals with DeltaV Live HMI experience and DeltaV Batch.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop a team of automation and process control professionals.

Drive control system reliability, modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Manage automation-related capital projects from planning through implementation.

Establish priorities, allocate resources, and provide technical leadership across support and project activities.

Support process optimization efforts, including advanced control strategies.

Approve control system designs, standards, documentation, and engineering practices.

Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and internal engineering standards.

Maintain system continuity through training, documentation, and change management processes.

Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, including occasional off-hours support.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred.

5+ years of process control, automation, or industrial controls experience.

5+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams.

Experience with industrial control systems, PLCs, DCS, HMI/SCADA platforms, industrial networking, and plant systems.

Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated success leading multiple priorities in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Experience
-
10+ years of automation or process control experience.

Experience in continuous process manufacturing environments.

Background with control system upgrades, migrations, and commissioning.

Familiarity with Advanced Process Control (APC), Model Predictive Control (MPC), data historian systems, and modern automation technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

DeltaV Live HMI configuration, deployment, or migration experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) license is a PLUS

Experience with batch process automation, system upgrades, and control system modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong process control expertise with proven DeltaV implementation experience and a successful track record delivering automation capital projects in a manufacturing environment.
