Job Title: Maintenance Technician - 1st Shift
Job Summary
Seidel Tanning Corp is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for first shift. In this role you will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the industrial equipment and systems throughout our Milwaukee manufacturing facility. Your work will keep production running, minimize downtime, and support safety standards across all maintenance activities. This is a union position covered by our collective bargaining agreement with UFCW 1473
Duties
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Maintain and repair leather processing equipment including splitters, shavers, wringers, coloring drums, and paste, toggle, and vacuum drying systems.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics, blueprints, and diagnostic tools such as ammeters and ohmmeters.
- Service drive systems including motors, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, and seals; perform precision alignments.
- Maintain air compressors, pumps, and wastewater treatment equipment including mixers and chemical dosing systems.
- Repair or replace faulty components using welding and fabrication skills, precision measuring instruments, and industrial mechanic techniques.
- Operate scissor lifts and other equipment for elevated maintenance tasks while adhering to safety protocols.
- Industrial electrical experience is a plus. Comfort working from prints and troubleshooting control circuits, starters, and VFDs is preferred but not required for the right mechanical candidate.
- Utilize maintenance management systems to document work orders, track maintenance history, and schedule future tasks.
- Diagnose electrical problems using electrical diagnostics tools and perform electrical blueprint reading for system repairs.
- Assist with troubleshooting involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs), 480V three-phase systems, low voltage controls, and schematics interpretation.
- Support safety initiatives by ensuring compliance with all safety regulations related to electrical work and machinery operation.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a manufacturing facility environment with strong industrial maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems; experience reading schematics is essential.
- Hands-on experience with equipment troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and repair using tools such as ammeters and ohmmeters.
- Skilled in welding, mechanical repairs, and the use of precision measuring instruments.
- Familiarity with maintenance management software for tracking and documentation.
- Ability to operate scissor lifts safely and efficiently; certification preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret schematics and blueprints for complex systems.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and industrial electrician practices is highly desirable.
- Completed apprenticeship, journeyman card, or military maintenance background preferred.
- Excellent communication skills in English; ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform electrical troubleshooting on low voltage through 480V systems safely.
- Industrial mechanic experience combined with a solid understanding of mechanical knowledge related to equipment repair.
- Willingness to work in a wet, humid production environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- $25–$35.00 per hour
- First shift, Monday through Friday
