Position Title: Structural Steel Fitter/Fabricator
Location: Steelworks of the Carolinas
Compensation:$19-$29/hr based on experience, skills, certifications, and demonstrated performance.
Employment Type: Full-Time
Second Shift: Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM to 4:30 AM
(Base pay + $1.50/hour second shift premium)
Overview:
Steelworks of the Carolinas is currently hiring Structural Steel Fitters/Fabricators for first and second shift. This position is responsible for accurately laying out, fitting, and assembling structural steel components using shop drawings and templates. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, quality-focused, and committed to working safely and upholding our core values
Job Responsibilities
- Mark reference points into materials to prepare for various modifications and additions prior to welding
- Operate heavy equipment cranes to move pieces from one fabrication station to another throughout the manufacturing process
- Position and tighten braces, bolts, clamps, boots and other necessary parts into place for welding and riveting
- Straighten parts that are bent or warped due to defects in the manufacturing process or damage caused by human error
- Preheat workpieces to make them malleable prior to shaping
- Shape, bevel and level low points along the length of structural components
- Align and fit parts to spec using the proper tools, including hammers, pry bars, wedges, turnbuckles and other appropriate tool selections
- Use squares, levels and other measuring tools to confirm that all parts are manufactured to specifications
- Uphold workplace safety expectations and aid in team accountability for safe workplace practices
- Maintain all quality assurance paperwork necessary to document the proper performance of duties
- Capable of reading drawings and meeting all safety and quality requirements to fit members with square detail. Capable of performing full penetration weld preps.
- Ability to operate a cutting torch, hand grinder, drills, and other hand and power tools.
- Must have familiarity with the following tools: Tape measure, combination square, speed square, framing square, bevel square, vise grip finger clamps, center punch and hammer, wire snips and pliers, magnetic level (6”), chalk line/roll of string Job
Qualifications
- Technical skills and the ability to understand blueprints, schematic diagrams and technical manuals
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks, such as climbing ladders and bending often
- Mechanical skills and knowledge of basic machinery, including computers, tools, collaborative robots and other devices
- Physical strength to lift heavy machinery, tools and components (at least 75 lbs)
- Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination, with the ability to manipulate and assemble very large and extremely small components
- Must be a Team Player with a good attitude!

Requirements:
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and fit-up symbols
- Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools accurately
- Minimum of 2 years previous experience fabricating structural steel or relative experience that is consistent with fabrication
