SHC (subsidiary of Miller Industries) is seeking to fill the position of Welder. This position is based in our SHC Athens, Tennessee hydraulic cylinder manufacturing facility and is a part of our Weld department.
SUMMARY
A skilled professional responsible for joining and fabricating metal components using various welding techniques, heat applications, and equipment. They play a crucial role in construction, manufacturing, and other industries by creating and repairing metal structures and products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reading and interpreting AWS blueprints, drawings, and other technical specifications to plan layouts and procedures.
- Determining the appropriate welding equipment and methods based on project requirements.
- Setting up components for welding according to specifications, including measuring, cutting, and aligning pieces using various tools like saws, calipers, and rulers.
- Operating welding equipment (manual or semi-automatic) in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
- Ability to MIG Weld.
- Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes and builds up metal parts.
- Inspecting welded surfaces and structures to ensure they meet quality and safety standards and identify flaws.
- Maintaining welding equipment and ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
- Following and adhering to strict safety regulations and using appropriate protective equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent experience.
· One to two years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Skill in using precision measurement tools and must be able to utilize various measuring devices, interpret blueprints and use shop math.
· is needed due to the technological needs of many fabrication parts.
· A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach.
· Must be able to successfully pass a skills and knowledge-based welding test.
· Must be able to successfully pass a math/measuring Skills Assessment (if applicable).
