We are seeking a dedicated, motivated, and dependable **Large Animal Veterinary Assistant** to join our equine and farm animal practice. We are looking for an individual who enjoys working outdoors, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to providing exceptional patient care and client service.
This is a full-time position based on a **four-day work week**. While we strive to maintain approximately **10-hour workdays**, large animal practice is inherently unpredictable. Emergency cases and same-day urgent appointments may extend the workday beyond 12 hours, and applicants must be flexible with scheduling as a specific end time cannot always be guaranteed. There are no weekend hours required in this position.
Responsibilities include assisting veterinarians with ambulatory farm calls, safely handling horses and livestock, setting up and cleaning equipment, assisting with medical procedures, maintaining accurate medical records and invoicing records, stocking/cleaning practice vehicles, and providing excellent client communication.
Qualified applicants should possess:
* Experience handling horses; experience with other livestock species is preferred.
* The ability to safely restrain and handle large animals in a variety of environments.
* The ability to confidently jog and lunge horses for lameness evaluations.
* The ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Large animal practice is physically demanding and performed in all weather conditions. Applicants should be comfortable working outdoors, walking on uneven terrain, and performing physically active tasks throughout the day.
