In this rewarding role, you will design and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to the interests and needs of seniors, including those with memory impairments such as Alzheimer's and dementia. Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead engaging activities that cater to residents’ interests, abilities, and care needs, including social events, games, arts and crafts, music sessions, and outings
- Collaborate with care teams to incorporate therapeutic activities that support residents with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other cognitive impairments
- Assist residents with daily living activities (ADLs), ensuring their comfort and participation in planned events
- Manage activity schedules efficiently to maximize resident involvement and ensure smooth transitions between events
- Foster a positive environment by encouraging socialization and building meaningful relationships with residents
- Maintain accurate records of activities conducted, resident participation, and feedback for continuous improvement
- Support family members and caregivers by providing updates on resident engagement and well-being during activities
Skills
- Proven experience in event planning, recreational therapy, or senior care environments such as assisted living or nursing homes
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, memory care strategies, and dementia-specific activities
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents of diverse abilities and backgrounds
- Compassionate caregiving skills with experience assisting with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) such as dressing, grooming, or mobility support
- Ability to manage schedules efficiently while adapting to changing resident needs or unexpected situations
- Familiarity with aging issues counseling and social work principles related to elder care
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in long-term care settings is highly desirable
