Position Summary
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, maintaining, and performing preventative maintenance on a wide range of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and facility systems. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and continuous operation of manufacturing and processing equipment in a heavy industrial environment.
The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, experience working with hydraulic systems, and the ability to maintain production equipment while adhering to all safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMechanical Maintenance
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild machinery, equipment assemblies, and sub-assemblies.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on production equipment and facility systems.
- Inspect hydraulic equipment for defects such as wear, misalignment, leaks, inadequate lubrication, and improper operation.
- Dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, assemble, and lubricate hydraulic and mechanical components.
- Perform repairs and equipment upgrades to maximize operational efficiency and equipment uptime.
- Analyze equipment failures and determine the most effective repair methods to minimize production interruptions.
- Operate machine tools including drill presses, pipe-threading machines, grinders, and other power tools.
- Recommend design modifications and process improvements to eliminate recurring mechanical failures.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to equipment life cycles, maintenance requirements, and spare parts inventory.
Electrical Maintenance
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical systems, motors, controls, wiring, panels, and equipment.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics on industrial machinery and facility systems.
- Assist with electrical upgrades, modifications, and capital improvement projects.
- Utilize testing and diagnostic equipment to identify electrical failures and maintain system reliability.
- Support maintenance activities involving automation, controls, sensors, and production equipment.
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain and repair building systems, utilities, and facility infrastructure.
- Support facility maintenance activities, repairs, renovations, and small construction projects.
- Ensure facility systems operate safely and efficiently.
- Assist with modifications and improvements to plant equipment and operations.
Planning, Coordination & Documentation
- Work closely with the maintenance team to address daily equipment issues and prioritize repairs.
- Coordinate activities with outside vendors, contractors, and subcontractors as required.
- Organize and complete maintenance work orders, repair documentation, and preventative maintenance records.
- Assist in developing technical specifications for equipment repairs and improvement projects.
- Review and evaluate OEM technical reports, maintenance recommendations, and service documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner while working in an active scrap metal, recycling, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5 years of facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, general contracting, or related experience.
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience maintaining industrial manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and OEM documentation.
- Experience servicing and repairing hydraulic equipment.
- Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of machine alignment, lubrication systems, bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, motors, and power transmission equipment.
- Experience using diagnostic tools, thermal imaging equipment, and ball bar testing is a plus.
- General Contractor License and/or Electrician License preferred.
- Strong verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
