Position Summary
The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides services, conducts comprehensive assessments and directs treatment to individuals and groups, supervises treatment delivered by the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, and supervises and directs support personnel. The OT develops home programs, provides patient and family instruction and participates in family and team conferences as needed, evaluates and selects adaptive equipment as needed, and participates in quality improvement programs and documents services according to Medical Center and department standards.
Essential Functions
- Performs comprehensive evaluation.
- Establishes a plan of treatment
- Performs discharge planning and re-evaluation.
- Instructs and prepares the patient for treatment.
- Utilizes appropriate modalities/interventions.
- Informs the patient of the treatment process.
- Monitors patients during treatments.
- Provides information to the supervisor, director and physicians.
- Establishes/maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients.
- Completes discharge planning in a timely manner.
- Designs home programs when indicated.
- Provides instruction to patients and patient’s family members.
- Makes all appropriate referrals.
- Provides written treatment programs for days off and Saturdays.
- Follows policy and procedure for charting/documentation.
- Provides update on patient status at all team meetings.
- Supervises and directs technicians in their departmental duties.
- Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
- Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
Work Experience
- One year experience as an Occupational Therapist preferred.
Education
- State of Texas Occupational Therapy license required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required within 30 days.
