Primary Purpose:
Direct, manage and monitor functions, programs and operations of the custodial services department. Oversee the annual operating budget, administer
departmental policies and procedures and lead the recruiting, hiring and placement of assigned staff.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):
HS Diploma; 5 years of related experience; 2 years’ experience in a management role.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Manage and supervise custodial supervisors, preventative maintenance technician, and other staff, as assigned.
2. Establish cleaning schedules, assignments and procedures to maintain a high standard of safety and cleanliness.
3. Inspect all District buildings and facilities and initiate cleaning and repairs as needed.
4. Regularly review cleaning and maintenance practices, ensuring all practices are efficient, effective, and best practice in the industry; making
recommendations for improvements, as necessary.
5. Facilitate recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, and training of custodial staff. Ensure equitable treatment of all staff members.
6. Provide training and orientation to custodians, supervisors, and others in cleaning procedures and proper use of chemicals and equipment.
7. Oversee evaluation of supervised employees.
8. Effectively and efficiently order equipment and supplies; maintain accurate records of budget and inventory.
9. Effectively engage in positive communication and good working relationships with custodial, campus, and district staff.
10. Develop and maintain a good rapport with principals and facility managers.
11. Establish and maintain effective reporting of custodial services for supervisors and district leadership.
12. Coordinate, direct and assist in setting up facilities for special events.
13. On call for department emergencies. May be required to perform custodial duties, as needed.
14. Follow Educator Code of Conduct and all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, practices and chemicals
- Knowledge of budgeting and bidding principles and practices
- Knowledge of federal, state and district laws, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices
- Skill in conducting on-site inspections of all facilities
- Skill in developing spreadsheets, databases and word processing
- Skill in communicating effectively with others
- Skill in researching and analyzing data and reports
- Skill in working in collaborative, team-based environments
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises custodial supervisors, custodians, and Preventative Maintenance Technician
Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):
Frequent district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; work indoors and outdoors to conduct on-site inspections; must be able to
push, pull, lift and/or carry at least 40 lbs.
