Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) Technician – 1099 Independent Contractor
Location: Tucson, AZ (On-Site / Clinic)
Schedule: 16 hours per month (Exactly 2 days per month, 8 hours per day). Days are pre-scheduled/flexible weekdays by mutual agreement.
Compensation: $35.00 – $50.00 per hour (Premium contractor rate, equivalent to a flat daily rate of $280 – $400 per clinic day depending on experience and certifications).
Job Summary
We are a private practice in Tucson, Arizona seeking an experienced, autonomous Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) Technician to provide electrodiagnostic testing as a 1099 Independent Contractor. This highly flexible, low-volume role is an ideal fit for a seasoned technologist looking for predictable extra income, a PRN professional, or a semi-retired specialist.
Our clinic provides a Cadwell Sierra Summit EMG/NCS machine on-site for your use. The ideal contractor will have immediate, turn-key familiarity with Cadwell Sierra software and hardware interfaces to independently run high-quality nerve conduction velocity (NCV) tests without requiring system training.
Key Responsibilities
- Independent Testing Execution: Independently perform comprehensive upper and lower extremity nerve conduction velocity (NCV) tests on scheduled clinic days.
- Equipment Utilization: Confidently operate our provided Cadwell Sierra Summit system (utilizing the Summit software, stimulus controls, and wave acquisition parameters).
- Patient Care: Prepare patients, verify medical history, explain testing protocols, and apply surface electrodes accurately while maintaining patient comfort.
- Physician Support: Work efficiently alongside our supervising physician to ensure seamless data handoff for the needle electromyography (EMG) portion of the evaluation.
- Data Integrity: Review test responses for artifact or abnormalities on the fly, adjust parameters using the Cadwell system tools, and prepare accurate report metrics.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience performing electrodiagnostic studies, with proven proficiency operating Cadwell Sierra Summit hardware/software.
- Certifications: ABEM Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) or AAET Registered NCS Technologist (R.NCS.T) highly preferred. Must hold a current BLS certification.
- Tax/Business Status: Must operate as an independent contractor (W-9 required; contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits).
- Skills: Strong anatomical knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, patient troubleshooting skills, and the capability to work completely unsupervised.
Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
