GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Conducts activities or provides instruction in employment and pre-employment skills; provides on the job training and supervision for competitively employed individuals, work crews, or enclaves; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: A Direct Care Staff conducts a variety of group activities and/or provides instruction in employment or pre-employment job skills. Work may involve competitive placement of individuals in the business community. Follow-up care services are provided. An incumbent in this class observes individual performance and progress and provides input into individual training plans. Providing leadership to direct care staff under the supervision of the Project Director. A vehicle & valid driver’s license, Professional Dress Attire required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
- Provides employment, pre-employment, and daily living skill instructions;
- Observes individual's performance and progress and provides input into individual training plans
- Provide pictures of participant activities or field trips
- Provides follow-up care services including contracts with employers
- Assists in assessing job requirements through task analysis;
- Provides job development; job analysis; client to job matching; on the job training; worker evaluation
- Assists in providing support to the individual job skills and work habits on the job site;
- Provides information to individuals and families, as necessary, so that they may better understand program activities and goals; Ensures the safety and security of individuals in his/her care;
- Enters data into individual files;
- Writes reports on activities of observed individual behavior;
- Keep current attendance of assigned individuals.
- Provide transportation for program participants as needed with personal vehicle;
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of mental and physical disabilities; Ability to communicate effectively, establish rapport, and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, employers, and community agencies; Ability to assign employment, pre-employment, and daily living skills training tasks to individuals and provide supervision in their completion; Ability to plan and organize; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Possession of valid motor vehicle operator's license. Maintain a clean driving record and background.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Some experience working with individuals with disabilities at a community mental health center, hospital, or workshop setting with completion of high school courses in arithmetic and English; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
