GLO Resources is currently hiring a Fabrication Shop Foreman in New Orleans, LA. Pay starts at $36/hr experience dependent. This position works night shifts with occasional overtime, weekends, and schedule adjustments as needed.
Position Summary
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in structural, marine, or industrial fabrication with strong leadership skills and the ability to manage production activities in a fast-paced shop environment. The Night Fabrication Shop Foreman provides hands-on supervision of welders, fitters, helpers, and other assigned personnel while coordinating manpower, materials, equipment, schedules, and quality requirements.Reporting to the Daytime Fabrication Shop Foreman, this position is responsible for executing nightly production plans, monitoring workflow, resolving fabrication issues, maintaining communication between shifts, and ensuring all work meets customer specifications, approved drawings, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily night-shift fabrication operations, including assigning work, managing manpower, and ensuring production goals are achieved.
- Review production priorities, drawings, specifications, material requirements, labor needs, and schedules with the Daytime Fabrication Shop Foreman.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate assignments, safety expectations, quality requirements, and production objectives.
- Monitor job progress, labor usage, material availability, equipment needs, and resolve production delays or issues.
- Interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, bills of material, and specifications to support layout, fitting, welding, assembly, and fabrication activities.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, materials, connections, and fabrication requirements before and during production.
- Ensure work complies with customer requirements, approved drawings, welding procedures, applicable codes, and company quality standards.
- Coordinate inspections, identify nonconforming work, and prevent unauthorized deviations from approved procedures or specifications.
- Maintain accurate shift documentation, including production progress, labor usage, equipment issues, quality concerns, and incomplete work.
- Prepare end-of-shift reports and ensure proper handoff of work, priorities, and outstanding issues to the daytime team.
- Promote a safe, organized, and productive work environment by enforcing safety policies, conducting safety meetings, and addressing unsafe conditions.
- Monitor proper use of welding equipment, cutting tools, cranes, forklifts, lifts, and other shop equipment.
- Coordinate materials, tools, equipment, and workflow to reduce downtime, rework, and production bottlenecks.
- Train, mentor, and provide direction to fabrication employees while supporting skill development and accountability.
- Assist with labor tracking, overtime coordination, job priorities, emergency assignments, and production planning.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of industrial, marine, structural, or heavy fabrication experience.
- Previous experience as a foreman, lead person, crew leader, or fabrication supervisor preferred.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel, aluminum, and custom fabrication processes.
- Proficient in layout, fitting, welding, cutting, grinding, assembly, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, specifications, and work packages.
- Experience verifying dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, and fabrication details.
- Knowledge of welding processes commonly used in marine and industrial fabrication environments.
- Ability to safely operate or supervise forklifts, overhead lifting equipment, welding machines, cutting equipment, and power tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage employees while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and attendance.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt in a fast-paced production environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to work nights, overtime, weekends, and emergency assignments as needed.
- Marine repair, shipyard, industrial construction, or heavy manufacturing experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Comfortable working in a marine fabrication or industrial shop environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and handle heavier materials with assistance or lifting equipment.
- Ability to work around welding operations, sparks, fumes, dust, noise, machinery, and moving equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, aboard vessels, and in active industrial environments as required.
