Duties
- Safely operate different types of trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks to transport freight across designated routes.
- Load and unload cargo using appropriate equipment like forklifts when necessary, ensuring secure and proper handling of freight.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, tires, lights, and load securement.
- Follow all traffic laws and company policies to ensure safe driving practices on highways and local roads.
- Manage route driving efficiently by planning optimal paths to meet delivery schedules while adhering to hours-of-service regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding delivery status, delays, or issues encountered during transit.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage logs, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance reports.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a commercial driver with a focus on truck driving or delivery roles.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the vehicle types operated (e.g., tanker, refrigerated).
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks and various specialized vehicles such as flatbeds or dump trucks.
- Experience with freight handling including load & unload procedures and securing cargo safely.
- Ability to operate auxiliary equipment like forklifts when needed for loading or unloading freight.
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to trucking operations and transportation compliance standards.
