Caruso Foot & Ankle is a well-established podiatry practice in Freehold, New Jersey. We are seeking a dependable, patient-focused Medical Assistant with previous experience in a medical office or clinical healthcare environment.
This position is intended for someone seeking a stable, long-term role as part of a small medical-practice team. We will provide training in podiatry-specific procedures, office workflows, and our systems. Applicants should already possess a working understanding of patient care, medical terminology, clinical professionalism, healthcare technology, and the day-to-day expectations of a medical environment.
This is primarily a clinical Medical Assistant position; however, all team members are expected to cross-train in essential front-office functions and provide support based on staffing and practice needs.
Clinical Responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities include preparing patients and treatment rooms, assisting the physician with examinations and minor in-office procedures, documenting information in the electronic health record, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, managing clinical supplies, and supporting diagnostic X-ray workflows as trained.
Applicants must be comfortable working in a clinical environment that may involve blood, bodily fluids, visible or open wounds, strong odors, minor procedures, and other routine aspects of podiatric patient care.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of experience in a medical office, physician practice, urgent care center, specialty practice, or comparable clinical healthcare environment; or completion of a Medical Assistant training program that included a clinical externship
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and standard clinical workflows
- Experience interacting professionally and compassionately with patients
- Familiarity with patient intake, medical documentation, electronic health records, and related clinical responsibilities
- Strong computer proficiency in a Windows-based office environment
- Experience using an electronic health record or electronic medical record system
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and basic Excel
- Ability to navigate electronic files, shared documents, email, messages, calendars, and task-management systems
- Ability to enter information accurately, locate and upload documents, manage electronic communications, and learn new software efficiently
- Willingness and ability to cross-train in both clinical and front-office responsibilities
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established clinical and administrative procedures
- Demonstrated understanding of patient confidentiality and strict adherence to HIPAA, privacy, and information-security requirements
- Dependable attendance and reliable transportation to Freehold, New Jersey
- Ability to work the complete posted schedule, including Tuesday evenings
- Ability to occasionally remain beyond the posted closing time when assigned because of patient-care or operational needs
- Interest in a stable, long-term position within a medical practice
Front-Office Cross-Training and Coverage
As part of a small medical-practice team, all employees are expected to cross-train and provide front-office support when needed. This may include assisting with phones, scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, electronic messages, insurance and demographic updates, and general administrative coverage.
Technology and Compliance Expectations
This position requires frequent and independent use of an electronic health record system, Microsoft 365, email, electronic documents, scheduling tools, and other office technology. Applicants must be comfortable learning and using software efficiently, entering information accurately, managing electronic communications and tasks, and locating and organizing digital files.
Employees must protect patient confidentiality, follow established procedures for system access and handling protected information, and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, privacy, cybersecurity, and office policies. Required training must be completed, and privacy or security concerns must be reported promptly.
Previous experience with eClinicalWorks is preferred but not required. Training will be provided on our specific systems and workflows; however, applicants must already possess strong general computer skills and experience working with healthcare technology.
