Sawmill Brewing Company, an award-winning brewery, taproom, and entertainment destination located in the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods, is seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead our team and participate in all aspects of operations, staffing, and financial performance. This role is key to driving strategic growth and continuous improvement across the business, as we enter into our second decade of operation. Reporting directly to the President of the Board, the GM will play a vital role in shaping the future of Sawmill Brewing Company with our team.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations, working closely with departmental managers to ensure smooth execution across all areas of the business and facility.
- Collaborate with the Board and team to develop long-term strategies and set clear growth objectives.
- Maintain and manage budgets, leveraging systems like Clover POS and QuikBooks to support data-driven decision-making and reporting.
- Establish and maintain robust inventory management practices with regular reporting and analysis.
- Analyze cost structures and margins across multiple revenue streams including beer, food, and events.
- Develop and implement policies and processes that support continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Generate regular operational and financial reports with insights and actionable recommendations.
- Mentor, support and lead taproom and staff with development through annual reviews, coaching, and career growth opportunities.
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training processes, while motivating current staff to meet performance goals.
- Report regularly to the Board and leadership team on business performance and strategic initiatives; attending monthly BOD meetings.
- Lead special projects, including working with external consultants and contractors to execute plans on time and within budget.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and industry regulations.
- Troubleshoot operational challenges such as profit fluctuations, staffing concerns, or supply chain issues.
- Serve as a backup across roles during emergencies or staffing gaps, including weekend coverage when needed.
- Support local distribution.
- Community PR and support leader – the face of our business.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in a senior management or executive role.
- Strong background in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and inventory control.
- Broad understanding of core business functions including operations, HR, procurement, and accounting.
- Experience in the brewing industry is a plus—but not required. We have an outstanding team of specialists in brewing, canning, bar service, distribution, and food service operations.
- Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Exceptional communication skills and a passion for customer engagement.
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
- Problem-solving mentality and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A community facing leader that thrives on providing excellent hospitality and driving events to bring in the local audience.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred.
- Physical capability to lift kegs and assist with event setups as needed.
- Positive, energetic attitude with a passion for creating a fun, community-oriented environment.
