Vocational Rehabilitation is seeking a Career Assessment Specialist in the Fargo area.
As our Career Assessment Specialist, you will help individuals identify meaningful career opportunities that align with their interests, strengths, abilities, and goals. Through vocational assessments, you will help clients better understand their skills, motivations, and support needs, empowering them to make informed career decisions while supporting Team ND's mission of becoming the healthiest state in the nation through meaningful employment and greater independence.
Responsibilities will include conducting vocational assessments as requested by Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors to evaluate an individual's interests, skills, abilities, work behaviors, and employment potential. You will interpret assessment results and provide recommendations that help guide employment planning and career development.
You will help individuals build the confidence they need to enter today's workforce by conducting mock interviews, assisting with resume development, helping complete employment applications, and strengthening their interviewing skills. You will also provide training in basic computer skills, software applications, internet navigation, and email use to support their employment readiness.
You will maintain accurate and timely case documentation to ensure assessments, recommendations, and progress are properly recorded. Your documentation will help the rehabilitation team make informed decisions while ensuring services are delivered within established timelines.
You will coordinate with the State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) VR Assessment Administrator to ensure consistent vocational assessment services across North Dakota. You will provide training and resources to DVR staff on assessment tools and best practices, assist with presentations, and maintain systems to track assessment activities and manage assessment materials.

You must be committed to following through with both the individuals you serve and their employers to help create successful, long-term employment outcomes. You will serve as a connector between individuals, employers, and support teams, ensuring everyone understands the goals, expectations, and accommodations needed for success.
You should enjoy meeting new people, research career assessment tools, labor market information, and employment trends, and use that information to develop thoughtful recommendations.
You will confidently present your findings to the rehabilitation team and help guide employment planning based on each individual's strengths, assessment results, and career goals.
You must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accurate records, meeting deadlines, and ensuring every individual receives high-quality services throughout their employment journey.
To be considered for this position, you must have a bachelor's degree in one of the following Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation Administration/Services, Psychometrics, Behavioral Health, Behavioral Science, Disability studies, Human Relations, Human Services, Marriage and Family Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Special Education, Vocational Assessments/Evaluations or Human Development & Family Science and one (1) year of experience working with people who have disabilities.
You must have a current valid driver's license with the ability to travel.
Location
ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. This position is in Fargo and onsite with the ability to travel within the 6-county region of support.
