Position Definition:
Provides care and supervision of children or adults who have developmental disabilities, including but not limited to: autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and epilepsy.
Essential Functions:
- Ensures the personal safety of individuals by providing appropriate personal care.
- Assists individuals with basic tasks necessary for living including toileting, feeding, participating in recreation activities, and developing appropriate social skills which are fundamental to daily living.
- Engages clients in meaningful activities and social interactions, promoting their physical, emotional, and cognitive well being.
- Provides encouragement to support positive behavior in home, school and community settings.
- Prepares meals and snacks, cleans up dishes and utensils, may feed individuals.
- May transport individuals to participate in community activities, as approved by supervisor.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding the individual, his/her family, activities and any records pertaining to the client's care.
- Works in conjunction with other disciplines, ie; Speech therapists, Occupational therapists, and Registered behavioral technicians, to support the individual's specific goals.
- Ensures a safe working environment by following company policies and procedures to protect and maintain client safety.
Requirements:
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experioence working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not necessary.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform basic first aid and CPR.
