Territory Sales Representative — Chicago Metro (Commission)
DSi Recycling Systems Inc. | Commercial & Industrial Heating Equipment | Janesville, WI
The opportunity
DSi Recycling Systems is the largest Clean Burn waste oil furnace distributor in North America. We are looking for a sales rep to own the Chicago metro territory — seven counties, 9.5 million people, and a wide-open customer base.
It has never had a rep dedicated to it. Our long-serving Illinois representative is retiring, so the seat is open for the first time in years. A metro of this size and profile supports strong, growing sales once a rep builds the base — the customers and the demand are already here. The opportunity is wide open.
We are looking for someone to build a territory, not manage an existing account base.
The product — and what you’re really selling
Clean Burn is a complete heating system that complements or replaces a shop’s existing furnace or boiler. It runs on used motor oil, hydraulic fluid and other waste oils — the waste that auto shops and fleet operators already produce just by doing business — and turns it into heat instead of a disposal bill. Waste oil heat is not new, but this is well-engineered, high-efficiency equipment.
What you are really selling is savings and control. From the moment the burner fires, the owner stops handing money to a utility for propane, electric or natural gas — and buying the equipment locks in their heating cost in today’s dollars, off the treadmill of rising, volatile fuel prices. Few pieces of equipment pay an owner back the way this one does.
Environmentally, it is recycling on the spot: the oil never leaves the property, so there are no disposal hauls and fewer heavy trucks on the road. And we stand behind the whole system — DSi is the only waste oil heating brand that provides installation, service, parts and tech support, not just the box.
The sales cycle runs three to six months, selling to shop owners and fleet managers who make equipment decisions deliberately. Once a customer installs a Clean Burn furnace, they typically become repeat buyers as they expand or upgrade.
What the role involves
- Calling on auto repair shops, fleet operators, municipalities, and light industrial accounts across the seven-county metro
- Reactivating about 215 dormant accounts already on file, plus a decade of prospected leads handed over when you start
- Prospecting into new accounts — the metro has about 6,500 auto shops alone, of which fewer than 10% are in our current database
- Managing your territory by suburb cluster — large geography, no micromanagement
Training and support
This is an independent contractor role, but you would not be on your own. Our retiring Illinois representative trains you over your first few months and rides along with you in the field, then hands over his full lead file. You take part in our monthly sales meetings, are paired with experienced reps and technical staff, and work day to day with our sales operations coordinator on quotes, customer contact and questions. Two full-time service technicians in the area handle installation and service, and refer sales leads back to you.
We are a small company covering a big territory. If you want an energetic team, a direct line to ownership, and to see your own effort move the company’s results, this is that kind of place.
Who fits
- You cover the Chicago metro, but you do not need to live in the city — our territory reps are based in the surrounding communities, within reasonable driving distance of the metro
- 5+ years of outside B2B sales, ideally selling equipment or other considered-purchase products to commercial accounts
- Existing relationships with auto shops, fleet operators, or industrial accounts in the territory are a strong advantage
- Self-directed; able to plan and manage a large geographic territory independently
- Comfortable with a commission structure and a 3–6 month sales cycle
Compensation
Commission on every sale — furnaces, boilers, tanks, chimney and accessories — plus performance bonuses at higher volumes. Earnings grow as you build the territory:
As the territory builds Estimated annual earnings
First year about $50,000
At full productivity $150,000+ (with bonuses)
First-year earnings reflect a first-year sales pace. The top figure is full productivity — realistically a three-to-five-year build — and includes performance bonuses earned once you are beating volume targets. A draw against commission bridges your first year, and we help with travel and mileage costs while you get the territory established. Full commission and bonus details are covered during the interview.
What DSi provides
- Full product training and a multi-month, hands-on handover from the retiring representative
- Sales materials, territory data, the existing account database, and a decade of prospected leads
- Installation and service coverage through two full-time local service techs — no service work for you
- Performance bonuses on top of commission
- Support with travel and mileage expenses while you build the territory
- A direct working relationship with ownership — small company, fast decisions, no corporate layers
