The Role
We’re creating a new position to support our growing production operations. This is a great entry point into manufacturing — no prior experience required. If you’re organized, dependable, and the kind of person who likes variety in their day, this role was built for you.
You’ll move through the plant with a mobile workstation, keeping our production records current and accurate. You’ll also operate one of our quality assurance systems — a wind-based testing station that verifies our products meet the high standards our customers expect. The work is straightforward once trained, and the process gives you time to handle your data entry responsibilities simultaneously. Over time, you’ll take on receiving and shipping support as well, making this a role with real breadth.
What You’ll Do
- Enter and manage work orders in our production system throughout the day, moving around the plant floor with a mobile computer workstation
- Operate our quality assurance wind testing station — full training provided; no technical background needed
- Support the receiving team as you become proficient, signing for and processing incoming deliveries
- Grow into backup coverage for our shipping operations
Schedule & Compensation
- $20.00 per hour, paid bi-weekly
- Four 9-hour shifts per week — 36 hours is full time here
- Medical, dental, and life insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Paid time off
Where This Role Can Go
We promote from within and invest in the people who show up. When you develop your skills and familiarity with our products and processes, there is a clear path toward an assembly position on the floor. We also cross-train across departments — you’ll gain real exposure to receiving and shipping operations, adding to your value and versatility.
What We’re Looking For
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working in a light industrial production environment.
- Able to stay organized while moving between tasks and locations throughout the day
- Able to walk and stand 9 hours a day
- Able to lift 30 pounds occasionally
- Successfully work with team members in an individual and group setting
- Basic computer skills; experience with production or inventory software is a plus but not required
- No manufacturing experience necessary — we’ll train the right person
Who we are
R.M. Young Company has been building precision weather monitoring equipment in northern Michigan for over 60 years. Our instruments are known throughout the industry as workhorses — reliable, accurate, and built to last. Our shop floor reflects this same standard: well-organized, collaborative, and maintained with care. You’ll find a team here that takes its work seriously but not itself — collaborative, good-humored, and deeply invested in the quality of what we build.
