A Brief Overview
The Engineering Manager leads the plant-level engineering and maintenance organization at the Holmdel site, supporting day-to-day maintenance execution, equipment reliability, capital project implementation, utilities, facilities, and continuous improvement. This role is responsible for ensuring production equipment, packaging/filling lines, utilities, and site infrastructure operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering and maintenance leader with strong manufacturing floor presence, practical troubleshooting capability, and experience supporting high-volume production equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment.
What you will do
- Oversee the daily activities of the plant engineering and maintenance team, ensuring effective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment, packaging/filling lines, utilities, and facility systems.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support production goals.
- Lead reliability improvement efforts, including downtime analysis, repeat failure reduction, spare parts strategy, PM optimization, and maintenance work order discipline.
- Support high-speed packaging and filling equipment, including liquid fillers, labelers, conveyors, wrappers/cello equipment, pumps, motors, sensors, VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, and related line controls.
- Assist with capital project execution, including scope development, vendor coordination, installation, commissioning, startup support, and handoff to operations and maintenance.
- Partner with Operations, EHS, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and site leadership to improve uptime, safety, compliance, and production execution.
- Manage department budget, parts, tools, outside services, contractors, and manpower to meet operational priorities.
- Supervise, train, and mentor maintenance and engineering team members, building technical capability, accountability, and strong floor-level support.
- Ensure engineering and maintenance activities meet safety, environmental, regulatory, and site compliance requirements, including LOTO, machine guarding, electrical safety, and applicable process safety expectations.
- Support CMMS discipline, including accurate work order completion, PM compliance, backlog management, downtime follow-up, and maintenance KPI reporting.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Required)
Experience Qualifications
- 1–3 years of supervisory experience in maintenance, engineering, reliability, or plant technical operations required.
- 4–6 years of plant maintenance or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required, preferably in fragrance, beauty, food, beverage, pharmaceutical, consumer products, chemical, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with packaging, filling, automation, utilities, capital projects, and CMMS-based maintenance systems strongly preferred.
- Experience in environments involving flammable materials, alcohol-based products, chemical handling, or PSM/process safety considerations preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices, including preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, downtime reduction, and spare parts planning.
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, utility, and automation systems.
- Working knowledge of CMMS systems and maintenance KPIs, including PM completion, backlog, MTTR, downtime, repeat failures, and emergency work.
- Strong leadership presence on the manufacturing floor, with the ability to coach mechanics, work with operators, and support production under time-sensitive conditions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across maintenance execution, capital projects, compliance, utilities, and production support.
- Practical understanding of safety and environmental requirements in manufacturing, including LOTO, machine guarding, electrical safety, contractor safety, and regulated operations.
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) or equivalent (Preferred)
- Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) (Preferred)
