Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Support Worker to join our team in providing vital services to individuals experiencing homelessness and other high-risk populations. Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to residents by assisting with daily activities, behavioral health needs, and conflict resolution using effective de-escalation techniques.
- Conduct intake assessments and maintain accurate documentation of resident information while respecting resident confidentiality.
- Support residents with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and behavioral management strategies through compassionate engagement and appropriate referrals.
- Ensure safety and security within the shelter by monitoring resident activities, performing manual handling when necessary, and adhering to security protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans, coordinate services such as addiction counseling or home & community care, and facilitate resident progress.
- Manage data entry, filing, and collection of relevant information related to resident progress and program compliance using Microsoft Office tools.
- Assist with medication administration when required and ensure adherence to health and safety standards including first aid and CPR certification.
Requirements
- Proven supervising experience or leadership skills in a social service or shelter environment.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, or mental health conditions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with culturally diverse communities and families.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, conflict management, behavioral health principles, and de-escalation methods.
- Ability to handle high-risk situations with professionalism while maintaining resident confidentiality.
- Familiarity with data collection, case management practices, and Microsoft Office applications for documentation purposes.
- Valid certifications in first aid, CPR, manual handling, and medication administration are highly desirable.
- Experience working with youth or underserved populations is a plus; training will be provided where needed.
