General Criminal Court Assistant
Job Overview: The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office has an open, full-time position for a court assistant. Primary responsibilities will be providing prosecutors with assistance in whatever way requested to increase prosecution efficiency and communication with the Court, witnesses, and victims.
Examples of duties: Any court assistant hired will be required to, but not limited to these various tasks:
- Assisting prosecutors in court
- calling for victims/witnesses in court
- obtaining initial information from victims/witnesses
- contacting victims/witnesses with updated court information
- sending court notification letters to victims
- data entry on a variety of programs/systems
- printing criminal histories
- answering calls on the switchboard
- filing and boxing files
- updating forms
- working with other agencies to obtain case information
Minimal Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and of good moral character. At least two (2) years of college-associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Alternatively, must have a high school diploma or equivalency and at least two (2) years of experience working in the human service field or court system in a position requiring professional contact with children and/or adults. Must have significant computer/typing skills. Additionally, a criminal records check will be performed on all applicants.
Preferred Experience: Experience and/or training in working with the criminal court system; a working knowledge of Jefferson District Court terminology and abbreviations is helpful. Multitasking and organizational skills are a must.
Shift and Rate of Pay: This is a first-shift job (Monday-Friday with a ½ hour lunch). The starting pay for the full-time position is $41,600 per year, increased depending on experience.
