Educational and Experience Requirement
High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Technical/vocational training related to job duties would be preferred. Eight years of experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in one or more craft areas preferred. A combination of education, experience and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Assists in the supervision and coordination of employees in assigned areas. Provides assistance to the Foreperson of General Maintenance in the performance of a variety of maintenance and repair work in one or more craft area.
Primary Responsibilities
Leads and assists the supervisor in all aspects of service area management including but not limited to supervision, leadership, training and development, task and project delegations, and service area coordination of all assigned employees in the General Maintenance Service areas of Residence Life Maintenance. Assists with service area projects and performs duties and projects assigned by the supervisor. Uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System with work orders to allocate time, assign work, and document work on a daily basis. Assists with the ordering of service area materials, tracks inventory and oversees assigned projects and timelines. Schedules work assignments. May assist the supervisor with employee relations, issues, and other employee related areas such as interviewing, evaluating, and making recommendations of applicants and present employees. Oversees service area training, both formal, informal, and on the job training (OJT). Assists with the compilation of reports. Ensures that all assigned staff follow department policies and procedures. In the absence of the supervisor assumes supervisor responsibilities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Good working knowledge of the various types of equipment used in the assigned areas in a particular craft, skill, or unit. Proficiency in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered fair but involve more than average (25-50%) exposure to one or more disagreeable elements or hazardous equipment, materials, and chemicals. Contacts will vary according to particular department and area assigned. Other University departments, faculty, staff, students, and off campus agencies. Work requires the exercise of moderate judgment in the application and interpretation of policy, procedures, or practices to work problems of a well-defined nature. Decisions and commitments usually relate to many minor problems and occasionally to a major one.
Uniforms and identification badges are provided by the University according to departmental policy.
Position requires driving and operating a University vehicle; therefore, a valid Texas driver license and driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier is required. Weekends, holidays, and extended hours during emergencies may be required.
