True North Construction (TNC) is a high-end residential building firm based in San Rafael, California. We are seeking an experienced, foundational Full-Charge Bookkeeper and Office Manager to anchor our corporate financial operations and oversee daily administrative workflows.
Working directly with the company Principal and our outside CPA team, you will be entirely responsible for maintaining the accuracy and health of our day-to-day books, balancing corporate financial management with operational project accounting.
This is a full-time, 100% in-office position for a self-directed professional who values precision, efficiency, and proactive problem-solving in a boutique business environment.
Core Responsibilities:
- Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Manage all daily financial records using QuickBooks Online. Own the full cycle of Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), bank/credit card reconciliations, daily journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements—including Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss (P&L) statements—ensuring accurate double-entry tracking for clean data handoffs to our outside CPA.
- Project & Construction Accounting: Execute detailed job costing, tracking project budgets against expenditures, managing client progress billings, and processing subcontractor payments.
- Compliance Management: Oversee weekly payroll administration, tax tracking, and maintenance of subcontractor documentation (W-9s, COIs, and Lien Waivers/Releases).
- Office Operations: Provide administrative stability for the San Rafael office, managing vendor relations, supply procurement, and supporting the Principal with operational workflows.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of full-charge bookkeeping experience. Financial competence is the absolute priority; experience in construction, real estate development, or design-build industries is highly valued.
- Technical Software: Advanced, expert-level proficiency with QuickBooks Online (Required) and MS Excel. Efficient 10-key data entry skills.
- Accounting Depth: Complete comfort with corporate financial structures, general ledger accounting, account analysis, debits/credits, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Key Traits: Exceptionally organized, discrete with financial data, and a clear communicator who can collaborate effectively with both the Principal and outside financial partners.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay: $80K/yr
- Paid Time Off: 2 weeks accrued PTO (accrual begins after a 90-day probationary period) + Paid Holidays.
