American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Acute Dialysis (Hemodialysis) position at a teaching hospital near Chicago, IL, requiring 5+ years of dialysis experience and Epic proficiency.

Inpatient hemodialysis unit in a 231-bed teaching hospital located approximately 30 minutes from Chicago, IL
-
Hemodialysis unit consists of 6 bays with patient ratios of 1:2 in the dialysis unit and 1:1 in the ICU
-
Patient population includes hemodialysis patients, including portable bedside dialysis in the ICU
-
12-hour day shifts with a 6:30am start time, 36 hours per week
-
Every other Saturday weekend rotation required
-
On-call requirements include 2 call shifts per week (7:30am–7:00pm) and 1 Sunday per month, with a 30-minute response time; additional on-call shifts from 9:00pm–7:00am

Holiday coverage required on a rotating every-other basis

Block scheduling is not available

Charting performed in Epic (required); unit also uses Alaris pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing

Nurses may travel to the ICU to perform dialysis on patients

Active IL RN license required

Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred

Minimum 5 years of acute dialysis/hemodialysis experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Inpatient acute dialysis experience required

Experience with Fresenius T or K dialysis machines required
-
Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips required

Epic EMR experience required

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible

Performs bedside hemodialysis in both the dedicated unit and at ICU bedsides for critically ill patients
-
Phlebotomy responsibilities are included in this role
-
IV/VAT team is available for difficult sticks, PICC lines, and midlines
-
Unit support includes a charge nurse (who may carry a patient assignment), a resource nurse available at night who floats between units, respiratory therapy in-house, hospitalist in-house, and OT/PT/ST available on weekdays

Orientation consists of one shift to learn unit flow

Navy scrubs required

No artificial fingernails or nail extenders permitted during direct patient care; natural nail tips must be kept under ¼ inch
