American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a General Medicine PCU position requiring ventilator experience and an active VA or Compact RN license.

Work in a hybrid PCU unit consisting of 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds within a large acute care hospital setting
-
Patient population includes vent/trach-dependent patients and common diagnoses such as DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicide/overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure
-
Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a goal of 1:4

Unit includes 2 dedicated beds for chronic trach patients
-
Remote telemetry is used with monitors remaining on the unit; tele sitting is implemented to support Patient Care Tech coverage

Charting is done in Epic (experience required)

Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
-
Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
-
Floating within skillset required across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
-
One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
-
The facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
-
Active Virginia State or Compact RN license; pending license accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Ventilator and trach care experience required
-
Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
-
Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
-
Experience with medication administration including cardiac drips (non-titrating)
-
Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
-
Familiarity with Rapid Response and Code team activation

Experience with isolation precautions

Epic EMR experience required

Two professional references required for consideration

Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

Advanced specialty services include bariatric, trauma, and surgical care
