Purchasing and Logistics Specialist
A Purchasing and Logistics Specialist bridges the gap between sourcing suppliers and moving freight. They manage procurement lifecycles, negotiate vendor contracts, schedule, book, track shipments, and ensure inventory accuracy. This role requires heavy use of ERP systems, cost analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to optimize supply chains.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Sourcing: Identify reliable suppliers, request price quotes, and execute Purchase Orders (POs) for materials.
- Vendor Management: Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules. Continuously evaluate vendor performance to maintain cost-efficiency.
- Transportation & Logistics: Coordinate freight forwarding, track cargo movements, manage shipping paperwork (including international customs), and investigate delayed or lost shipments.
- Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels, establish reorder points, and collaborate with warehouse personnel to ensure a seamless flow of goods.
- Financial Oversight: Reconcile invoices with packing slips and POs, process payments, and identify ongoing cost-saving opportunities.
- Technology & Analytics: Utilize supply chain software and digital trackers to maintain up-to-date records and generate reports for leadership.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, logistics, or a related field is typically required.
- Experience: 1 to 5+ years of experience in materials acquisition, transportation, or inventory control.
- Software Skills: High proficiency in spreadsheet management (Excel/Google Sheets) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems like SAP, NetSuite Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Hard Skills: Strong mathematical and analytical abilities for cost benchmarking and forecasting. Understanding of shipping terms (e.g., Incoterms) and logistics regulations is a major asset.
- Soft Skills: Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and written/verbal communication skills.
