About The Carpenter Shed
The Carpenter Shed is a faith‑based transitional living program for young men (typically aged 16–20) who are navigating mental‑health, substance‑use and process‑addiction challenges. Its community‑based and highly structured program helps residents discover purpose, meaning and direction in a safe, sober environment . Young men come to the Shed to find freedom from chaos and confusion and to discover their aspirations and identity .
Position Summary
The part‑time Driver provides safe, reliable transportation for residents of The Carpenter Shed, primarily during weekends. The Driver ensures the safety and comfort of residents while transporting them to appointments, employment, volunteer assignments, recreational activities and other outings. This role is instrumental in maintaining the structure and stability that allows residents to thrive.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a company‑provided vehicle to transport residents to and from appointments, activities and community engagements.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and program policies; maintain a clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
- Perform routine safety checks on the vehicle, report maintenance needs and ensure the vehicle is clean and fueled.
- Maintain accurate mileage and trip logs and communicate scheduling needs to supervisors.
- Exhibit professionalism and respect for residents; model courteous driving behavior.
- Provide support to staff when not driving, such as assisting with errands or facility needs.
- Work primarily on weekends with flexibility to cover occasional weekday or evening shifts as needed.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work weekends and flexible hours.
- Minimum age 21 (for insurance purposes) and ability to pass a drug test and background check.
- Familiarity with the Monroe/West Monroe area and willingness to travel within the region.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact respectfully with young adults and staff.
