POSITION TITLE : Special Projects Intern

HIRING RATE : $15.44 per hour
STATUS : Full-Time/Part-time, flexible hours during academic year
HOURS PER WEEK : 40
WORK HOURS : 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; 2 - 4 months duration

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY :
Provides hands-on experience in public sector administration and planning, project coordination, intergovernmental relations and constituent services. Supports key functions of the County Executive's Office, gaining exposure to government operations and processes, along with internal and external communications. Performs administrative, research, and clerical support functions for the County Executive’s Office. Prepares research summaries and briefs for leadership review, and coordinates meetings, receptions, and ceremonial events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Participates in research projects and prepares summaries or briefs for leadership review.
2. Carry out constituent services by responding to inquiries and routing communications. Prepare and host meetings, receptions and ceremonial events.
3. Provides administrative services to the Assistant to the County Executive, including scheduling, document preparation, data entry and maintaining filing system.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
1. Ensures that a strict level of confidentiality is maintained as required.
2. Serves the County Executive's office in a professional manner, which includes ensuring that all visitors and callers are treated with respect and courtesy.
3. Ensure all assigned projects are completed timely and professionally.
4. Represents the County Executive, Assistant to the County Executive and the County as an entity in a professional and courteous manner in all meetings attended.
5. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS :
1. Reports to Assistant to County Executive.
2. Works with Winnebago County employees, department heads and the general public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
1. Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Public Administration, Communications, Political Science, Business or another related field.
2. Ability to work with confidential information.
3. Ability to assume responsibility and to work well under minimal supervision.
4. Ability to work with a variety of individuals and personalities and form and maintain effective working relationships.
5. Ability to work with local, state and federal representatives and committees on a wide range of issues.
6. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form and have good listening skills.
7. Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under time constraints.
8. Ability to operate a computer and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel or other software.
9. Current valid Wisconsin driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to perform most work from a sedentary position.
2. Ability to function in situations encountered in a normal office setting.
3. Ability to use standard office equipment including telephone, computer, printer, photocopier, and scanner.
4. Capacity to freely move in the community (such as through possession of a valid driver’s license or other means) including access to a vehicle
