Position: Maintenance Worker I- Streets
Salary: Starts at $47,677.00 DOQ (Grade 8)

Overview:
The City of Creve Coeur is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker I-Streets with the City’s Public Works Department. This is a non-exempt, full-time, benefit-eligible position offering a competitive benefits package including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and employee health, dental, vision, disability insurance, and defined benefit retirement program with Missouri Local Employee Retirement System (LAGERS).
Essential Functions:
· Understands and implements correct construction practices in regard to the building and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm water structures, and park maintenance. Uses proper tree and shrub pruning procedures. Has the knowledge and skills to safely operate a majority of the department’s tools and equipment. Can follow product recommendations for the mixing and application of various horticultural chemicals. (30%)
· Performs leaf and limb removal in an efficient manner. Follows assigned routes and procedures. Is mindful of the safety and well-being of fellow crew members. (20%)
· Reports for emergency call-outs in a timely fashion and follows PW emergency procedures. Dependable in emergency situations in the past year. Follows assigned routes, instructions, and safe practices when plowing snow or applying road chemicals. Assists others with the completion of their assigned snow routes. (10%)
· Uses equipment in the manner for which it is designed. Cleans and maintains tools according to manufacturer’s recommendations and PW practices. Tools and equipment put in proper storage after use. (10%)
· Uses correct traffic control and flagging techniques as described by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Wears personal protection equipment. Informs supervisor of unsafe conditions in roadways, with equipment, and at the PW facility. (10%)
· Possesses elevated or special skills which are beneficial to the department. Shares knowledge with others. (5%)

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One or more years of equivalent or related experience.
Current commercial driver license (Class B) without air brake restrictions or ability to obtain within first 6 months of hire.
Preferred skills include equipment operation and maintenance, welding and fabricating for equipment repairs.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and communicate effectively with city personnel and the general public.
Successful candidate shall display a positive attitude in an effort to provide a healthy working environment for all.
Able to follow both oral and written instructions, and use information to solve problems and make effective decisions.
Able to lift, carry and handle up to 100 pounds and walk up to two miles a day.
Have strength and manual dexterity to operate various hand and power tools.
Able to stoop, bend, climb and crawl as needed to adequately maintain equipment and facilities.
Must be able to work in a variety of temperature and weather conditions both indoors and outdoors as needed.
Employee shall make every effort to be present to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner barring use of vacation, sick leave, etc., per city policy.
