Overview
Join our dynamic team as a School Lunch Manager, where you will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of nutritious and appealing meal programs for students. This vital role ensures that the dietary needs of children are met with enthusiasm and professionalism, fostering a positive dining experience that supports their health and well-being. As a School Lunch Manager, you will oversee kitchen operations, manage staff, and ensure compliance with health regulations—all while creating a welcoming environment that encourages healthy eating habits.
Responsibilities
- Plans, coordinates, and directs the operation of the district’s breakfast, lunch, and snack programs for schools in the district, as well as food service for special events, e.g. Senior Citizen Brunches, Superintendent's Conference Days, special Board of Education meetings, etc.
- Purchases all food, supplies and equipment, reviews vendor bills, signs all invoices, and maintains inventories.
- Prepares and monitors the food service budget; advises the Administration on capital outlay for equipment.
- Completes reports. e.g. Annual Renewal, SNAP, Medicaid, Free and Reduced-Price Lunch, monthly profit and loss statement, etc. Uses the Child Nutrition Management System (CNMS) as required and maintains record keeping systems for all paper and electronic files.
- Oversees the attendance of all food service personnel, arranges their schedules, as well as those of substitutes, and signs/approves timesheets.
- Supervises the collection of, and accounting for cash receipts (with daily and monthly receipt reports); delivers cash to the district's designated financial institution daily.
- Evaluates the work performance of all food service staff and the food service messenger.
- Trains personnel, using webinars on the NYSED Child Nutrition Knowledge Center website, and other materials. Along with district administration, interviews food service personnel as needed. Any other related duties assigned by the Superintendent.
- Participates in the NYSED Child Nutrition Knowledge Center webinars and attends local NYSED training as required to meet one's own Professional Standards Training Requirement.
- Sets up and implements procedures and policies for the effective operation of the food service program, including, but not limited to, the Food Safety Plan and Wellness Policy.
* RESIDENCY: To fulfill the standard residency requirements, appointees must have been a bona fide resident and dweller of Nassau County for at least one year immediately preceding the advertised date of examination and maintain that residency until appointed from the eligible list established as a result of the examination.
** A Provisional Appointment is a temporary measure used when no eligible Nassau County Civil Service list exists for a competitive class position. It allows a position to be filled until a competitive examination can be administered, and a new eligible list can be established. Provisional service is not permanent and may be terminated at any time, before or after a viable list is created. Passing the next examination is not a guarantee that you will be appointed to this position permanently.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
