Job Summary
Welch Excavation and Utility Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating a variety of earthmoving equipment, including dozers, excavators, and skid steers. This position is responsible for performing site preparation, grading, excavation, loading, trenching, and other dirt work activities while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and quality workmanship.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in dirt work, excavation, or construction.
- Proficient in operating:
- Dozers
- Excavators
- Skid Steers
- Ability to understand grades, elevations, and site layouts.
- Knowledge of excavation safety and trenching practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and attendance record.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to enter and exit heavy equipment multiple times throughout the day.
- Ability to work long hours as project demands require.
Duties
- Operate dozers, excavators, skid steers, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform site grading, land clearing, excavation, backfilling, and trenching operations.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and construction drawings.
- Load and move dirt, rock, and other materials as directed.
- Perform finish grading and rough grading to project specifications.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections.
- Identify and report equipment maintenance and repair needs.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite safety procedures.
- Work closely with supervisors, foremen, truck drivers, and crew members to ensure project goals are met.
- Assist with labor duties when equipment operation is not required.
- Maintain productivity while minimizing equipment wear and fuel consumption.
Skills
- Proven construction site experience with a strong understanding of heavy equipment operation.
- Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor issues and perform basic maintenance on machinery.
- Hands-on experience with specific machinery including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and water or tanker trucks.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to heavy equipment operation and construction environments.

Pay: $22.00 - $32.00 per hour
