Under direction of the Chief of Police or his/her designee, enforces State laws and regulations and City Ordinances pertaining to the care, treatment, impounding and quarantine of animals; investigates reports of persons being bitten by animals, investigates cruelty to animals and nuisance complaints; may perform testing, sampling, and inspections pertaining to public health with respect to domestic and wild animals; and performs related work as assigned. Performs duties of a Public Safety Aide including investigating non-emergency and non-life threatening calls for service, assisting motorists, directing traffic, assisting officers with accident reports, and parking enforcement when not performing other duties.
Conducts field inspection and field and telephonic interaction with citizens, business owners, property owners and the public to ensure compliance with municipal, federal and state code provisions. Work is performed under general and direct supervision and assignments are carried out with some independence.
1. Education and experience: High School Diploma or the equivalent (GED); AND two (2) years’ experience in a related field which would provide experience in the care and handling of domestic and wild animals; PSA’s must successfully complete all phases of training. 2. Must Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License AND be insurable by the City of Española’s auto/vehicle insurance.
