- Uses advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems using technical drawings.
- Performs in-house testing on control components and systems; performs equipment tests at vendor site as needed.
- Performs on-site set-up, programming, and training.
- Provides necessary robotics training on automated systems to customer personnel and supports customer training efforts.
- Provides accurate robot documentation of automated systems.
- Supports customer automation systems both remotely and onsite as needed
- Maintains a strong company presence and positive working relationship with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and co-workers to accomplish smooth system start-ups.
- Performs field service duties as assigned.
- Performs preventative maintenance on customer equipment as assigned; follows all Preventive Maintenance programs.
- Completes detailed reports and other paperwork.
- Follows up on completed work with customers and other departments to ensure resolution.
- Completes all assigned training plans.
- Travel required, up to 30% annually
- Stays current on new developments in the industry.
- Complies with all quality and safety regulations, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Robotic & Programming
- Familiarity with industrial robots such as ABB, Fanuc, Kuka, and Panasonic.
- Creates, modifies, and troubleshoots programming for various robots such as ABB, Fanuc, and Kuka.
- Modifies existing control systems and robot software, in-house or in the field, as needed.
- Plans and develops offline robot programs using 3D simulation software.
- Initializes and installs software on robots; sets up robot user frames and TCPs (Tool Center Points).
- Verifies and touches up offline robot path programming, I/O, and logic.
- Performs PLC and robot code troubleshooting and debugging.
Education and/or Experience
- Associate's Degree in a related field; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 3+ years' experience in automation systems activities.
- Knowledge of common control, computer architecture, networking, and electro-mechanical systems.
Under general supervision of the Service Manager, the Automation Service Technician works with minimal supervision to resolve electro-mechanical issues and equipment errors on automated systems and related equipment, and program robots and other automation equipment. Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains products/equipment; trains employees; identifies, analyzes, and repairs product failures; and orders and replaces parts as needed. Determines and recommends which products or services best fit customers' needs.
