Company Overview
Complete Shipping Solutions is a leading provider of logistics and supply chain services, helping businesses streamline operations through innovative technology and personalized support. Our platform, SMARTT Shipping, simplifies complex shipping processes, reduces costs, and delivers efficiency for clients across diverse industries.
As CSS continues to expand across the United States, this role will play a key part in establishing new customer relationships and accelerating revenue growth in multiple strategic markets.
Job Overview
As the Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with clients while driving sales and fostering business growth - a mix of a "hunter" and "builder" profile. You will manage the entire sales process, from lead generation (cold outreach) and product demonstrations to client onboarding and support.
Responsibilities
- Establish and grow strong relationships with key U.S. accounts (both assigned and self-sourced) by delivering an exceptional customer experience and demonstrating a deep understanding of each client’s business.
- Own the entire sales process, including lead generation, outbound prospecting, product demonstrations, customer onboarding, and coordination through early account maturity. Ensure a smooth handoff to the Customer Care team for ongoing support.
- Play a key role in launching and scaling CSS’s U.S. market, helping to build brand awareness, pipeline, and long-term revenue.
- Develop, execute, and report on an annual sales plan with monthly targets, based on quotas set by the Director of Sales, including reactivation of inactive or dormant accounts.
- Design and execute innovative sales strategies to source prospects and drive overall company growth, measured by the number of SMARTT Shipping demonstrations conducted and converted into customers.
- Conduct market and industry research to identify niche verticals and regional opportunities within your U.S. market.
- Create and present professional proposals, including service scope, pricing, and supporting research tailored to U.S. customers.
- Build and maintain a healthy pipeline through cold calling, warm leads, referrals, and professional networking.
- Qualify leads, manage deal progression, and maintain accurate records within the company’s CRM and ERP systems.
- Navigate challenging conversations professionally, including supporting Accounts Receivable with overdue invoices and collaborating with Customer Care on service recovery when needed.
- Proactively build internal knowledge of CSS systems and tools (e.g., SMARTT Shipping, NetSuite, HubSpot) while staying informed on logistics trends, U.S. market conditions, and global economics.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Claims, Operations, and Marketing to reduce claims exposure, support high-risk accounts, and develop effective sales collateral.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and after-hours networking opportunities, including client entertainment (e.g., dinners, sporting events, fundraisers).
- Provide general sales and administrative support as required, including scheduling meetings, site visits, and customer follow-ups. Perform other reasonable ad hoc duties as needed.
What You Offer
- Proven success in B2B sales or account management, preferably within logistics, transportation, supply chain, or industrial services.
- Strong prospecting, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license, passport and ability to travel regularly to and within Houston, TX.
- Comfort working in a remote, on-the-road sales environment, supported by CRM and sales reporting tools.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently while contributing to a growing team.
- Experience opening new territories or scaling accounts in a growth market is a strong asset.
