Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Church Custodian & Facilities Support team member to serve as a vital part of the Jones Memorial “The Higher Way Church” operations team. This position helps ensure that all church facilities remain clean, safe, welcoming, and ministry-ready for worship services, ministry programs, staff, guests, and community use. Responsibilities include routine and thorough cleaning, custodial care, light maintenance as needed, and setup and breakdown support for church events and activities. The ideal candidate takes pride in creating a positive and hospitable environment, thrives in a dynamic ministry setting, and demonstrates initiative, reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting the mission and ministry of the church through excellent stewardship of church facilities.
Responsibilities
General Cleaning and Maintenance Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all church facilities, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, worship spaces, fellowship areas, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and restock facility areas and hygiene supplies as needed
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, nursery and children’s areas, kitchens, and restroom facilities
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and preparation of spaces for worship services, ministry programs, funerals, and church events
- Support light facility upkeep, organization, and general custodial maintenance as assigned
- Help maintain a welcoming, safe, organized, and ministry-ready environment for members, guests, and community activities
- Work collaboratively with church staff and leadership while demonstrating professionalism, hospitality, reliability, and attention to detail
Requirements
- Proven experience in cleaning or janitorial roles within commercial or residential settings; prior custodial experience is highly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage time and multiple tasks efficiently and independently.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing ladders, walking and standing for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of cleaning products and safe usage procedures, sanitation practices, and workplace safety procedures
- Reliable team player with a positive attitude who takes initiative in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
- Ability to read and verbally understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures in English and communicate with staff and supervisors effectively.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Jones Memorial “The Higher Way” Church.
- High school or GED graduate or higher.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License. Reliable transportation preferred.
- Must successfully pass a background check and complete Ministry Safe Training.
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
