Brian Cox Mechanical, Inc. (BCM), an industry leading HVAC contractor headquartered in Poway California, has an opening for a Commercial Startup HVAC Technician.
Position Summary
The Startup Technician is responsible for performing startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and documentation for a wide range of HVAC equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and experience working with commercial HVAC systems. Equipment serviced includes Packaged rooftop units; split systems; VRF/VRV systems; Water sources heat pumps; Boilers; Pumps; Cooling towers; and variable frequency drivers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Perform startup and commissioning of various HVAC equipment and systems.

Complete all required startup forms, reports, and daily documentation accurately and timely.

Troubleshoot equipment issues and performs repairs as needed.

Verify proper system operation and performance during startup.

Maintain professional communication with customers, project managers, and team members.

Utilize computer software and digital tools for reporting documentation.

Follow all company, contractor, and building safety policies and procedures.

Heavy Lifting: Frequently lift and carry materials, tools, weighing up to 50–75 lbs.
Standing & Walking: Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving around job sites.

Stooping & Kneeling: Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling in confined spaces.
Manual Dexterity: Use of hands and arms for cutting threading, welding, and assembling.
Visual & Hearing Requirements: Ability to read blueprints, measure accurately, and detect sounds of leaks or machinery.
Environmental Conditions: Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and sometimes hazardous materials.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

EPA Certification or EPA II Certification preferred

2 years HVAC experience, commercial industrial startup experience preferred

Strong mechanical aptitude

Basic Computer knowledge

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Physical stamina and attention to detail

Valid driver’s license and auto insurance

Ability to work independently and in a team environment
