Angola High School is seeking a dedicated, student-centered School Counselor to join our counseling team. The successful candidate will support students in their academic, social-emotional, college, and career development while collaborating with families, staff, and community partners to ensure student success. This position plays a critical role in helping students navigate high school, prepare for postsecondary opportunities, and meet graduation requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Assist students in developing skills related to decision-making, goal setting, problem-solving, and self-advocacy.

Follow district procedures for reporting suicidal ideation and self-harm concerns.

Follow district policies and legal requirements regarding Department of Child Services (DCS) reporting.

Maintain accurate counseling records and documentation.
-
Track student progress toward graduation requirements.
-
Conduct credit checks and audits for freshmen through seniors.
-
Review transcripts and academic records to determine student placement and graduation status.

Enroll and orient new students and families.
-
Participate in parent and student meetings regarding placement decisions, including Angola High School (AHS), Angola Digital Academy (ADA), and Angola Career Education (ACE) programs.

Ensure teachers have access to and follow Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and 504 Plans.

Provide comprehensive college and career counseling services.

Assist students with college applications, including the Common Application.

Prepare letters of recommendation as appropriate.

Support students and families with FAFSA completion and waiver processes.
-
Promote participation in the 21st Century Scholars program and assist students with eligibility requirements.

Coordinate and facilitate grade-level course selection meetings.
-
Present information on college and career readiness to students and families.
-
Assist in coordinating career exploration activities.
-
Oversee implementation of career assessments and career pathway planning.

Serve as a 504 Coordinator and oversee implementation and compliance of Section 504 plans.

Participate in case conferences and serve as the PAR note taker as assigned.

Maintain communication with parents regarding student progress, concerns, and support plans.

Assist with planning and implementation of Graduation activities.

Assist with planning and implementation of Senior Awards Night.

Assist in the coordination of the Early College and P-CAP programs.

Coordinate and support 8th-to-9th-grade transition activities.
-
Develop and distribute student and parent newsletters.

Maintain and update the Guidance Office website.

Assist in reviewing and updating department presentations, forms, procedures, and documentation to ensure consistency and continuous improvement.

Grade-Level Course Selection Meetings

Other student and parent informational programs as needed

Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and other professional development activities as directed.

Collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, support staff, families, and community organizations.

Assist the Director of School Counseling with duties and projects necessary to support the counseling program and school goals.

Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in School Counseling or related field.

Valid Indiana School Counselor License or ability to obtain licensure (within one year).

Knowledge of college admissions, career planning, graduation requirements, and student support services.

Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.

Commitment to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and postsecondary success of all students.

Completion of Safe Hiring Solutions' expanded background check, including the Department of Child Services index.
COMPENSATION
-
Rate of Pay: To be determined based on experience, according to the Master Contract, based on a 200-day contract
