Job Summary
Focus On Eyes is seeking a motivated, compassionate, and detail-oriented Optician / Optometric Technician to join our patient-centered practice. This position combines clinical assistance, optical dispensing, and front-office responsibilities to provide an exceptional patient experience from check-in through checkout.
The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has excellent customer service skills, and is passionate about helping patients achieve their best vision. Previous optical experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual who is eager to learn, grow, and become a valued member of our team.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and provide exceptional customer service throughout their visit.
- Perform patient intake, document medical histories, and maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR).
- Prepare patients for comprehensive eye examinations by conducting preliminary testing, including visual acuity, autorefraction, tonometry (air puff), OCT imaging, retinal photography, and visual field testing.
- Assist the optometrist during examinations and procedures.
- Educate patients on eye health, treatment recommendations, contact lens care, and follow-up instructions.
- Assist patients with frame selection and lens recommendations based on their prescription and lifestyle needs.
- Measure, fit, adjust, and repair eyeglasses, process optical orders, verify prescriptions, and coordinate eyewear orders through delivery.
- Provide contact lens insertion and removal training.
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, verify insurance benefits, and respond to patient inquiries professionally.
- Manage frame inventory and maintain a clean, organized optical dispensary.
- Ensure exam rooms and equipment are properly cleaned and disinfected while maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
- Work collaboratively with the team to maintain an efficient, welcoming, and patient-focused office environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in an ophthalmology, optometry, medical office, or optical retail setting preferred.
- Experience as an Optician, Optometric Technician, Ophthalmic Technician, or Optical Sales Associate is a plus.
- Optical dispensing experience, including frame styling and lens recommendations is mandatory.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ophthalmic principles, patient intake procedures, and clinical workflows.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Crystal PM is a plus.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
- ABO, CPO, COA, or similar certification is preferred but not required
Compensation & Benefits
- $15.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and ability to perform multiple responsibilities within the practice.

- Friday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
