Open only to current City of Stamford active Public Safety Dispatcher I
Under the direct supervision of a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor, uses radio, computer terminal, or telephone to: receive and record reports of emergency and non-emergency information, complaints, messages, and requests for service, assistance, or coverage; transmit reports and messages to mobile units, persons or departments; and dispatch equipment and personnel to the location where service, assistance or coverage is needed. Functions as call-taker and/or radio dispatch operator for fire, police, or emergency medical service, as assigned. May act as a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor. Is required to work evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends as assigned; does related work as directed.
Supervision Received: Under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: May act as a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor in the absence of same.
Minimum Qualifications: PROMOTIONAL
1. Three years of satisfactory service as a full-time City of Stamford Public Safety Dispatcher 1.

2. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: As a condition of continued employment, must maintain all certifications as required of a Public Safety Dispatcher and within twelve months of promotion must obtain the Communication Training Officer (CTO) certification.
Minimum Qualifications: OPEN-COMPETITIVE
1. Three years of satisfactory experience working in a municipal public safety dispatcher operation as a telecommunicator of which at least one year was in a supervisory capacity.
2. At the time of appointment possess a valid Communication Training Officer (CTO) certification.
- It is the responsibility of the employee, as a condition of employment, to maintain all required certifications. Any lapse in a required certification shall be immediately reported to the employee’s supervisor.
SCOPE EXAMINATION: The examination will consist of an evaluation of the applicant’s education, training, and experience as submitted on the application and Training and Experience Questionnaire. The evaluation will be based on the relevance and depth of the applicant’s background as it relates to the duties and minimum qualifications of the position.
There will be no written examination for this position. Applicants are therefore advised to provide complete and detailed information regarding their education, work history, and any specialized training or certifications relevant to the requirements of the position.
